1) One goal is for you to find online communities that have a bearing on
your subject matter. You might discover information about your topic
that you were unaware existed!
For example, the iPod folks have the iPod Lounge:
http://www.ipodlounge.com/&e=9888 … electronics folks have the AV
Forums : http://www.avforums.com/&e=9888 … the folks building
portfolios have monster.com and dice.com … telephony and convergence
folks have http://www.blackberryforums.com/portal.php … then there is
the entire blogosphere to search as well!
You can search the blogosphere using http://www.daypop.com ,
http://www.blogpulse.com/ , http://www.blogstreet.com/ ,
http://www.feedster.com/ … http://www.technorati.com/ … that’s just
the tip of the iceburg.
If you have trouble finding the first community, please let me know
ASAP. Once you find the first one, it’s usually easy to branch out from
there.
2) Another goal is for you to continue your research — this is #3,
additional resources. ** I am modifying this assignment to provide an
extra-credit option. **
3) I’m also trying to help you ground your projects in theories and
concepts presented in class (#4). If you find that your project does not
link directly to community – pick some other area for exploration.
Please research and write about material that directly ties into what
you are doing for your final project!
The reason I am asking you to post these assignments to your blog as
well as provide me a copy via eSubmit is twofold.
The blog allows others can see your work (especially since some of you
have similar topics — maybe one of you has found a resource that the
other hasn’t thought about).
eSubmit lets me download all documents with one click.
Regarding Assignment 1:
Some of you are disappointed in your score. Please send me a note once
you receive your paper and ask questions; before you ask, however,
please review the scoring matrix that is at the bottom of the assignment
1 pdf. (I’ll be sending the papers out after this mail.)
Note that I am now going to provide an extra-credit option for
Assignment 2.
There is another way to boost your score on the first assignment: revise
your five citations so that they fully conform to APA style. Post this
to your blog (don’t worry about the hanging indents!) by Wednesday at
5pm. [This is not busy work! These citations should be properly
formatted for your final paper - so consider this work completed "in
advance."]
Finally, I have updated the blog post tally sheet for weeks 3-4 and it
can be reviewed at
http://courses.washington.edu/c300/2005b/pub/grades/
If I miss a comment – just drop me a note. I have to do these manually,
and while I strive for accuracy, I am human and have made mistakes.
See you Wednesday!
